The Yellow Desmo was the final model in the evolution of the Ducati single development started in the mid fifties with the 125 sport.

Sold in 250 350 and 450 cc engine sizes, many prefer the 350 version for its well balanced engine : low end torque and high end power delivery. The famous UK dealer, racer and Ducati guru Mick Walker purchased the first Yellow Desmo to be imported to the UK, in 350 trim with optional Brembo front disc and Ceriani front forks, he describes the bike as the best of the best Ducati Single.

Very few of these bikes were made, believed approx 400, few being sold in the UK at a time when Japanese bikes swarmed the market. It is generally believed that only 10 Brembo front disc option bikes ever came to the UK.

This bike was originally imported to France, French import plates date the bike as a 1975, although by then Singles production in Bologna had ceased making it one of the very last to be produced.

I purchased the bike in late 2016 and it had been remodelled in scrambler trim, with the original Ceriani forks and Brembo front disc brake set-up - the frame and engine numbers match the information on the French Dealer plates (gearbox and chassis).

The engine had been previously rebuilt and runs very smoothly with absolutely no abnormal noise. Sludge trap has been emptied, oil replaced and Desmo head valve clearances adjusted with correct shims to factory settings. Motoplat ignition timing is set using the marks on the engine casing using a strobe as recommended in the factory manual, Dellorto VHB 29 AD Carburettor is mounted with new seals and cables, throttle grip is the correct Tommaselli Daytona. A new (Conti) exhaust pipe is mounted to a NOS Busso period aftermarket silencer. ( relatively quiet and efficient).

Handlebar controls are all sourced original components with new cables fitted. NOS original equipment rubber Tommaselli handlebar grips. Original rear-set foot pedals and accessories have been zinc plated with new rubbers added.

The frame has been checked for straightness, cleaned up and stove enamelled satin black, with NOS Nieman steering lock and original ball race headset bearings. Ceriani forks have been dismantled, cleaned with new seals, dust covers and oil replaced. Fork legs and yokes newly painted to original finish, Ceriani decals have been added as original. Brembo P06 caliper has been dismantled cleaned and rebuilt with new seals and pistons. Brembo PS12 master cylinder has also been rebuilt with all new seals and piston plus NOS lever, brake lines are all new to the original spec. New swing arm bronze bushings have been fitted, honed to match the new pivot, original pivot grommets are present. Rear Marzocchi shock absorbers are NOS, 305mm centre to centre working perfectly with no leaks.

Wheel hubs have been bead-blasted, new bearings fitted, new as original zinc plated steel spokes assembled to polished original Borrani WM2 x 18” rims. Tyres are new Dunlop TT K82.

An original seat unit, side panels and tank were sourced, front mudguard is a new copy. The side panels and seat have been cleaned and carefully sanded back to the original paint colour, these units have not been re-painted just polished to show the exact original colour. The tank has been cleaned, treated for rust and sealed using a high quality Restom tank sealer, then resprayed to match the original colour of the seat and side panels. NOS water-slide decals have been added to the tank and side panels with no protective clear-coat as original.

All electrics are completely original components - all working correctly. Original Aprilia headlamp and lens, all original internal components including ignition key that came with the bike are present and working. Original rear light unit sourced and polished, with NOS lens. Correct MPH VDO speedometer and tachometer are fitted with new cables to a new rubber dash.

I am a passionate amateur Ducati Single collector and restorer; I believe in the quality and performance of the original equipment on these bikes. As a collector I cherish authenticity and patina - to me this has more value than newly refinished, refurbished, concourse restorations. This Ducati 350 Desmo is a revival not a restoration, I have made every effort possible to retain any patina and period quality. I am selling it with some regret to make way for future projects.

A DOC UK authentification certificate comes with the bike as do the French registration papers, and various receipts for new parts used in the project. Since many of the original parts used on the project have been purchased over an extended period of years from other collectors and enthusiasts, there are no receipts for these rare and difficult to find parts.
